Filk: At Pennsic

by Dave Aronson

(To the obvious tune.)

They say the Coleman lights are bright, at Pennsic. (At Pennsic....)
They say there's always doumbeks in the air.
But when you're walking down that road,
And you see someone dressed in woad,
You know you might be on the Broad Way! (At Pennsic....)

They say the fighting is intense, at Pennsic. (At Pennsic....)
Hear the marshalls, "Lay on!" they all shout.
But how you gonna win the war,
When all you've got is one barn door,
And one barn door won't even kill a scout? (At Pennsic....)

They say the housing is in tents, at Pennsic. (At Pennsic....)
It's hot all day and at night it gets cold.
It always rains, at least one day,
Makin' mud on ev'ry way,
But 'round the fires, the tallest tales are told. (At Pennsic....*)

They say that I can't win the crown, at Pennsic. (At Pennsic....)
But that's okay, I'll stick aroun', anyhow.
'Cuz I know, I'll be a king,
'Cuz I can swing this rattan thing,
And it'll be their turn, to scrape and bow.... (At Pennsic....)

*Optionally, background vocals say "At Pennsic", but main singer says "No $#!^, there we were...."

(For the musically impaired, the tune is On Broadway, by, um, The Coasters, I think. If you don't understand this song, you might find some help on the Society for Creative Anachronism's web page, and of course the Pennsic War web page.)
